STAGE 3

January:

Cape Town, South Africa to St. Helena Island. 3 weeks stuck in St. Helena waiting for bank wire.

February – April:

St. Helena Island to Ascension Island to Natal, Brazil. No visa for Brazil so can only rest three days before leaving again.

April – May:

Natal, Brazil to Cayenne, French Guiana.

May:

Cayenne to Îles du Salut, French Guiana to Tobago to Isla Margarita to Puerto Azul, Venezuela.

May – July:

Puerto Azul, Venezuela. Waiting for satnav to arrive. Rested and visited countryside.

July – August:

Puerto Azul, Venezuela to Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles to Colón, Panama. Prepare to cross the Panama Canal. Only one more ocean to go after that, but it is the biggest one.

September – October:

Panama to Galapagos Islands. The hardest leg, against current and wind. Lots of problems with barnacles. Slow speed made me doubt the possibility of completing the trip. Very relieved to arrive. Shame I could only stay five days.

October– December:

Galapagos to Marquesas to Tuamotus to Tahiti. A great thirty day run from Galapagos to Marquesas made me see how enjoyable sailing can be (once you’re used to being alone).
